Offshore
Original linocut print (unframed)
18 x 13 cm
‘Offshore’ is an open edition linocut carved from soft lino. The print recalls a sunset that I watched (endlessly it seemed) disappearing into the night when rowing across the Irish Sea from Arklow in Ireland to Aberystwyth in Wales.
The image was cut from soft lino and the print is hand-pressed to Awagami Hosho pad paper using a baren and silver spoon. Hosho is a Japanese washi paper with a smooth laid side and a textured underside. The sheets onto which I have pressed the image are cut to approximately 28 x 19.5 cm.
Two versions of the print are available: one printed in a blue-black ink that I mix from Intaglio Prussian blue and Carbon Black oil-based inks (this appears as the darker of the two photos); the other version is printed in Intaglio Prussian Blue ink.
Each print is signed, titled, and dated beneath the printed area. As this is an open edition, individual prints are not numbered.
