Melancholy Happy Study 3
Open edition linocut print (unframed)
15.5 x 10 cm (printed area)
Melancholy Happy Study 3 is an open edition linocut based upon an initial sketch that I made when thinking about the composition of my limited edition print Melancholy Happy. I made two studies in advance of cutting and editioning Melancholy Happy and then, after I had editioned the print, I got to wondering how the sketch itself might have been realised in lino and so I cut this third ‘study’.
I have hand-pressed the study to 250 gsm Somerset Satin paper with a silver spoon. The sheets used are hand-torn to create faux deckles and each sheet measures approximately 23 x 18 cm. The ink used is Hawthorn’s Stay Open carbon black oil-based ink. Each impression is signed and titled in soft pencil beneath the printed area. As this is an open edition, the prints are not individually numbered.
