It would make you weep
Limited edition linocut print (unframed)
30 x 21 cm
Number of prints in the edition: 10
Exhibited at The Royal Cambrian Academy Open 2024 and at Derby Print Open, 2023.
‘It would make you weep’ is an original linocut print that I have hand-pressed to Somerset white satin paper using a baren and silver spoon. It is printed in a deep blue-black colour mixed from Intaglio ultramarine with the addition of Hawthorn carbon black oil-based inks.
Somerset satin (250gsm) is an acid-free paper with a soft smooth finish. Made of 100 per cent cotton, it is at the upward limit of paper that can be hand-pressed. Each print is burnished over a considerable length of time in order to achieve a rich coverage. The edition is printed on sheets measuring approximately 38 x 28.5 cm.
The ‘weep’ of the title stems as much from how it felt to pull successful prints from the block as it does from the subject matter itself.
Each print is signed, dated, titled, and editioned in pencil directly beneath the image.
