Eglwys Cwyfan
Limited edition wood engraving (unframed)
5 x 7.5 cm (printed area)
Number of prints in the edition: 40
Eglwys Cwyfan is situated on a tiny islet in a small bay on the island of Ynys Môn / Anglesey. Founded in the 12th Century, time and tide have eroded the peninsula on which the church was built and left it stranded in the sea. It can be approached via a causeway. In the spring, the islet is awash with pink sea thrift.
My interpretation of the church is engraved in pear wood and then hand-pressed to Somerset Satin paper using a silver spoon. Somerset Satin is a 250 gsm English archival paper mould-made from 100% cotton. It has a pleasing weight and a gentle texture. I have hand torn sheets in the edition to create faux deckles and each sheet measures approximately 14 x 19 cm. The ink used is Hawthorn’s carbon black stay open ink.
The edition is limited to 40 prints in total, each of which is signed, titled, dated, and number in soft pencil beneath the printed area.
