Bryn Celli Ddu
Limited edition linocut print (unframed)
29 x 16 cm (printed area)
Number of prints in the edition: 10
Bryn Celli Ddu is a Neolithic passage tomb which overlays an earlier henge. Situated near Llanddaniel Fab on Ynys Môn (Anglesey), the passage of the tomb is aligned such that, on the summer solstice, shafts of light penetrate the passage and illuminate the chamber within. The Welsh name, Bryn Celli Ddu, translates into English as the mound, or hill, in the dark grove.
Each print in the edition has been hand-pressed to Awagami Hosho using a Kean ball-bearing baren and a silver spoon. The ink used is Hawthorn carbon black oil-based ink, and the paper has a lightly textured upper surface and a chequered underside. I have hand-torn each sheet in the edition to create faux deckles and have retained the original deckles. The sheets measure approximately 39 x 26.5 cm.
The edition is limited to 10 prints. Each print is signed, dated, titled and numbered in soft pencil beneath the printed area.
